The App of the Year Awards will be held on Thursday the 14th of August at The Venue, Melrose Arch.
The event, conceptualised by Creative Space Media in partnership with headline sponsor MTN Business, will showcase locally developed applications that have made a positive and lasting impact on consumers during the last 12 months. This year’s Gold Sponsors include Samsung, Core Group, Microsoft, Nokia and mLab.
Host and MC, comedian Joey Rasdien, will again keep the audience highly entertained with his unique brand of irreverent, South African humour. Read more
In light of the current surge in interest in the post-PC landscape, more than 250 submissions are expected for the 2014 MTN App of the Year Awards and are sure to spark heated debate and discussion amongst the judges.
The quality and calibre of submissions is also expected to surpass the high standards achieved in 2013. Key criteria for judging include whether the apps are: intuitive, reflect simplicity in design, are easy to use and install, add value and show improved functionality and innovation.
Last year’s MTN Business App of the Year Awards was awarded to SnapScan, an innovative app that enables consumers to make cell phone based payments, thereby eliminating the need for cash, wallets or a bank card. Developed in Stellenbosch, the app has taken South Africa’s market place by storm and is continuing its roll out to merchants across the country.
